There’s a new section on your class syllabi: a statement of acceptable use for generative AI algorithms like ChatGPT. Is it ok to use it to generate a draft outline? a whole essay? a polished and proofread version? What’s the difference between ChatGPT proofreading your paper and running it through AutoCorrect or Grammarly? Generative AI tools are exploding in accessibility and sophistication since the end of last semester, and they have implications in all areas of higher education, from content creation and plagiarism detection to personalization in learning. [Disclaimer: We used ChatGPT to write the first draft of this text!]
This conversation is part of the Prompt Response pop-up exhibition by the MSU Museum CoLab Studio, and is co-sponsored by WRAC.
