Co-hosted by the AI4STEM lab at the University of Georgia and the CREATE for STEM Institute, the AI-Based Assessments in STEM International Conference was held at the University of Georgia, in Athens, GA from May 25 to May 27, 2022. The conference brought together 41 researchers in AI, assessment, science learning, and educational technology from around the globe, with representatives from the US, Europe, and Asia.

Three days of working together featured several keynote speakers who presented projects that successfully implemented AI with science assessments or addressed key challenges of integrating science assessments with AI. Another feature was concurrent short talks from attendees to present current works in progress in AI with science assessments. The conference ended with participants working in affinity groups to identify challenges of applying AI in science assessments, as well as imagining possible future directions in AI applications that would advance the work related to the affinity group.

The resulting book on artificial intelligence and assessment in science education will be submitted for publication in September 2023.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Office of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at the University of Georgia generously funded this conference
